About Me

Debbie’s first yoga experience came as a child when her friend’s Mum would encourage them to join her while doing her yoga home practice. Afterwards they had Eccles cakes straight from the oven, both impossible to resist!

Jump forward over a decade to 1992 in New Zealand, working as a ‘WOOFER’ (Willing Workers On Organic Farms) on a round the world backpacking trip, she found a Yoga book and with time to spare began playfully to explore the Asanas (postures).

Returning home, she finally found herself a class with teacher David Reddicen who introduced her to Manchester and District Institute of Iyengar Yoga (MDIY)

Debbie was recommended by her teacher on to the teacher training course, and was advised that she should join Jeanne Maslen’s class.

Qualifying in 2002, Debbie has continued to upgrade her teaching certificate through further studies and now holds the Level 3 certificate. She also mentors students towards taking their teacher training certificate. Debbie continues going to regular ‘Teacher classes’ at the MDIIY, and continues to attended senior training workshops throughout the uk and online.

She feels honoured to have spent time studying with the Iyengar family at the Iyengar Institute in Pune, India and in the UK. She is looking forward to returning to Pune in January 2024. Until then she is delighted to be attending online classes with the teachers from RIMYI.
