I hope as the saying goes, ‘good news travels fast’…
Pop these dates in your diaries, as in person classes will be starting in September. At a new location, 4 Albert Street Hebden Bridge, (note to self, find out the postcode). Even closer to Leila’s kitchen, where I enjoy getting a hot chocolate, after class on a Friday morning, (your always welcome to join me).
What a roller coast the summer has been! For those of you that don’t know, unfortunately the lovely mill, which housed ‘Light on You Yoga’, in Burlees House, set on fire at the beginning of August. Which left myself and 16 other, gorgeous people and their lovely businesses devastated. Thankfully nobody was injured, the fire brigade were amazing and managed to save the adjoining houses. As always the local community rallied to offer supported.
Once the owners of Burlees house, confirmed that they had nowhere to relocate us to, I put out a post for ideas on social media along with speaking to friends. Anyway, Chris and I are delighted that somebody came forward and offered us a space that will suit our needs. If you spot us next weekend, we will be very busy prepping walls, for a lick of paint. So excuse the appearance is we are looking Jackson Pollack-esk.
If you have been past the back, of Burlees House, you may have seen that our windows survived, and so has the floor in our room, this means that with the supervision of the contractors, we can go in to look. I haven’t yet done so. When this was offered, I was away on holiday and then wanted to wait until I had some positive plans in place. Which I now have, so I am planning to go this week. Chris and Emily have already been in, so I have seen pictures of the devastation. Emily retrieved the plants and is amazingly nurturing them, so hopefully you will see them soon. She also took out some equipment, to see if anything could be saved. Quite a feat after 48 hours of being hosed by the fire brigade. Anyway, not much is salvageable as the water and smell has permeated. If you have walked passed the building you will know the smell. Fingers crossed that the blankets may have been saved. Emily with love, soaked, washed and dry cleaned them, until they began to smell better, but they still had scorch marks. Another kind caring being, whose specialism is textiles and the chemicals for dying them, has managed to move us a step closer. Hopefully, keeping my fingers and toes crossed, you will see them when the studio opens, have I already mentioned that its 4 Albert Street, Hebden Bridge!
Grace and Jacob set up a Gofundme fund raiser. Here’s what they had to say;
Hello All,
Grace and Jacob here. Our families, (Debbie and Chris) together shared a space at Burlees House which was burnt down in a fire last week. For those who don’t know them, they are two independent businesses owners in Hebden bridge bringing Iyenga Yoga and Somatic Movement Education and Trager to the community and area.
Before crowdfunding, they first wanted to check with insurance, but recently they have unfortunately found out they are not covered for any belongings or equipment that was inside.
We are therefore making this gofundme to see if anyone can help them cover some of the cost from the fire (and also to help find a new space). We hope you can help!
Lots of love,
Grace & Jacob
There’s lots to do. Equipment that will need replacing. We hope that, we will to be able to apply for some funding, so that in the future we could have wooden floors fitted 🫶🏼 (its carpeted at present. I will ensure you are stable to balance, when I’m teaching you).
There is so much to be Thankful for. Thank you, for coming to class, I couldn’t teach if you didn’t show up. For all the kind words, not only that I have received but for everyone who’s been involved. For offers of help, be warned, I may be cashing in on those! To anyone who is in a position to make a donation. My deep gratitude to you all 🙏🏼
